Want to find out your carbon footprint and ways to reduce it? EnergyRace is a cool site that you can trace your impact and then find simple ways to reduce it.Small goals relating to vehicle use, home efficiency, recycling and electrical use can greatly lower your personal co2 emissions.
It tells me that I produce 6.4 tons of co2 per year. (a few NY plane trips doesn’t help)
After setting some easily achievable goals, my “impact tree” says I’ll reduce my footprint by 33%!
If you sign up, in the referral line, tell them CamDogg sent you.

After vowing to:
- wash & rinse my clothes in cold water
- turn off my computer at night
- turn off my TV at night
- never turn the heat on (which we didn’t do before)
- and if I keep up my recycling habits
Then…I…
Decreased my co2 emissions by 70%. Now I am at 1.7 tons per year (the flight home to NYC twice a year killed me too CamDogg).
6.4 tons take that.

Every one of these carbon footprint websites I’ve been to ignore the simplest and most effective means to reduce your impact on the environment. Switch to a vegetarian diet. Impacts of a meat-based diet include deforestation, water degradation and methane production. The UN’s recent, well-publicized report found that rearing livestock has a greater impact on the environment than transportation (sorry for the long link): http://www.un.org/apps/news/story.asp?NewsID=20772&Cr=global&Cr1=warming
Its important to acknowledge how our actions affect the environment, and to take steps to reduce our impact. But just don’t forget that your food choices may have a bigger effect than what car you drive.
