2009 Gear up: “Hose the Bus” Action Day

Thursday, January 29, 2009
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

After a very successful 2008 election cycle for the Oregon and the Oregon Bus Project, the LaneBus is re-gearing and going to “Hose the Bus” this Saturday January 31st at 2pm at their office at 570 Lawrence.  This event is being held as a fun get-together to clean up the bus, give it some new bling, and learn a little about how you might get involved in local democracy.  And there will be BBQ!  And for those who want to help in a different way, here is your chance to get some exposure and help the LaneBus.  Those who donate certain amounts right now can get their name featured on a seat.  For more information on this, please go to www.lanebus.org

In 2008, the Bus Project registered over 26,000 voters in the state of Oregon.  Not only did they register these voters, but they set out to make sure they remembered to vote, with get out the vote efforts such as the now infamous “Trick or Vote” held on or near Halloween.  In the last cycle, Oregon was not the only state to join in the Halloween fun.  The Bus Federation teamed up with several other states to make “Trick or Vote” the most successful GOTV efforts in the nation.  And we can back that up.  The Bus Project recently won the Reed Award for Best GOTV Plan & Execution.

Locally, the LaneBus worked hard to register over 5,000 voters. In addition to their non-partisan work, the Bus Project’s Political Action Committee worked hard to re-elect Eugene’s Mayor, Kitty Piercy.  The Lane Bus knocked on over 3,000 doors in the last month of the campaign.

And just last week, the LaneBus had the successful return of the Bus Project Brewhahas at Davis’ Restaurant on the topic of Eugene’s type of government, titled: “City Government 101″.  The Lane Bus Project is also working on its next Brewhaha to be held on February 25th, the topic of which will be on field burning in Oregon. For more information on this and other upcoming events, please go to www.lanebus.org.

THE BUS PROJECT IS AN INNOVATIVE VEHICLE for hands-on democracy. We drive votes, drive leaders, and drive change. (And yes, we have a bus.) But the local bus needs some upgrades.

Pimp and Hose the Bus Action Day!
January 31st, 2009, 2pm at the Lane Bus Office (570 Lawrence St)
Bring cleaning materials, warm clothes and something fun to help give the Lane Bus’ bus some character. (We are planning on some silver paint for accents, new seat covers, bead curtains….)

Can’t make it, or want to help pay for costs? Well here’s how:

  • Buy the bus’ insurance for a year: $3,000 (And receive the prestigious status of the Driver Seat!  Your name (or name of your choice) embroidered onto the driver seat!)
  • Buy your own seat on the bus: $500 per large seat and $250 per smaller seat (Here is your chance! Sponsor a seat and get your name or logo on that seat for 1 year!)
  • Your name here: $25 per name (Buy a spot for your name or logo on a seat for just $25. And remember to share your bus seat with a friend!  They can buy a spot near yours!)
  • Cleaning materials: $5-10 (Sponges, soap, buckets…all very necessary for this clean-up! Everything helps!)

To give, send your check to:
