Engage, educate, and elect. That’s our mission. Founded in 2001 to respond to specific needs, the Bus Project has mobilized thousands of volunteers and activists around the state of Oregon. We bring voters out of the woodwork. We create forums to learn about candidates and policy issues. The BusPAC works to elect the best progressive candidates in the state. We do it all, with one constant: combining fun and politics. Former Governor Barbara Roberts, who now serves on the Project’s Advisory Council, has called the Bus Project “the most exciting thing in Oregon politics in the last 20 years.”

Background Needs - The reasons we do this stuff.

  • The need to bridge the urban, rural, and suburban divide. People today are 48% less likely than in 1970 to live next to someone they disagree with politically.
  • The need to engage new and young people in the political process. The Millennial Generation is the most diverse and progressive-minded generation in US history. They love to volunteer. But fewer than 1% volunteer for political issues or candidates. They’ll clean up a beach . . . but won’t help elect an official who will regulate pollution.
  • The need for a new progressive movement, in which Oregon can shine a light that will be seen around the nation.
  • The need for grassroots activism, positive, people-powered politics that celebrates alliteration and recognizes that the grassroots are priceless: worth a lot, not for sale.
  • “A great democracy must be progressive or it will soon cease to be great or a democracy.”
    - Teddy Roosevelt
