2009 Gear up: “Hose the Bus” Action Day

Thursday, January 29, 2009
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

After a very successful 2008 election cycle for the Oregon and the Oregon Bus Project, the LaneBus is re-gearing and going to “Hose the Bus” this Saturday January 31st at 2pm at their office at 570 Lawrence.  This event is being held as a fun get-together to clean up the bus, give it some new bling, and learn a little about how you might get involved in local democracy.  And there will be BBQ!  And for those who want to help in a different way, here is your chance to get some exposure and help the LaneBus.  Those who donate certain amounts right now can get their name featured on a seat.  For more information on this, please go to www.lanebus.org

In 2008, the Bus Project registered over 26,000 voters in the state of Oregon.  Not only did they register these voters, but they set out to make sure they remembered to vote, with get out the vote efforts such as the now infamous “Trick or Vote” held on or near Halloween.  In the last cycle, Oregon was not the only state to join in the Halloween fun.  The Bus Federation teamed up with several other states to make “Trick or Vote” the most successful GOTV efforts in the nation.  And we can back that up.  The Bus Project recently won the Reed Award for Best GOTV Plan & Execution.

Locally, the LaneBus worked hard to register over 5,000 voters. In addition to their non-partisan work, the Bus Project’s Political Action Committee worked hard to re-elect Eugene’s Mayor, Kitty Piercy.  The Lane Bus knocked on over 3,000 doors in the last month of the campaign.
