Opponents of Measure 50 have put $4.5 million into a TV and radio buy (compliments RJ Reynolds and Philip Morris).

R.J. Reynolds, a spin-off of Reynolds American Inc., may have broken a spending record with its anti-Oregon Ballot Measure 50 advertisements.

R.J. Reynolds, which owns six of the 10 most popular U.S. cigarette brands, recently ran a series of advertisements decrying the proposed 84.5-cent tax on cigarettes.

The Yes on 50 / Healthy Kids Team, which includes the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association, has these words to say to big tobacco:
Hey, Big Tobacco! Butt Out of Oregon!”.

Watch the “Wolf in sheep’s clothing” below. The end is the best part.

Strawberry Fields, or Strip malls?
We’re down with the strawberry fields. Mmmm…yummm Strawberries….
That’s why the Lane Bus is hitting up the streets this Sunday to protect Oregon. Our home.

What is Measure 49 and why do we need it in our lives?

It’s a legislative referral that will appear on your ballot THIS November ‘07. The measure will work to clarify 2004’s Measure 37.

* It protects Oregon’s farmlands, forests, water and the rights of families to build one or a few homes on their own property.

* Fixes flaws in Measure 37 that allow large housing subdivisions, big-box stores and strip malls where they don’t belong.

* Restores balance by helping small property owners and preserving Oregon’s special quality of life for future generations.

So, what are ya waiting for?

Rock the streets with us THIS Sunday, September 30th!

Meet up: Monroe Park (10th Ave. & Monroe St.) @ 2pm sharp.
Speakers, music, training, & snacks provided of course!

We need your spunk, snazz, super powers….

Email. Run. Fly. Morph to LaneBus, or call 541.344.999 to snatch a canvassing space. Ask for Lynn.

On the Daily Show, Uncle Bill talks about the stress of campaigning and fund raising facing today’s political figures — and he all but spells out why politicians should support voter owned elections. By switching to a model that only requires a small donation and a pledge of support, candidates can turn their attention to governance, not to finding the richest donors.

Bill has really trimmed down!

An accidental discovery was made by a cancer researcher when he found out that radio waves could cause salt-water to burn. Check the story here about this amazing potential energy source:

Rustum Roy, a Penn State University chemist, has held demonstrations at his State College lab to confirm his own observations.

The radio frequencies act to weaken the bonds between the elements that make up salt water, releasing the hydrogen, Roy said. Once ignited, the hydrogen will burn as long as it is exposed to the frequencies, he said.

The discovery is “the most remarkable in water science in 100 years,” Roy said.

“This is the most abundant element in the world. It is everywhere,” Roy said. “Seeing it burn gives me the chills.”

Roy will meet this week with officials from the Department of Energy and the Department of Defense to try to obtain research funding.
